Build an air-powered bottle rocket in 30 minutes.
Material List:
- Plastic soda pop bottle
- 1 thin drinking straw
- 1 thick drinking straw
- Tape
- Clay
- Scissors
- Copy or computer paper
Directions:
- Make sure there are no cracks in the bottle.
- Wrap clay around the bottom of the small straw. Do not poke the straw through the clay or else it will
stop the air from coming through the straw from the bottle!
- Use the ball of clay to stop up the top of the bottle.
- Let some of the straw stick through the clay so that you can see the straw inside the bottle.
- Test for air leaks. Put your finger over the top end of the small straw. Squeeze the bottle gently. The bottle
should feel hard when there are no leaks.
- Cut two strips of paper from the pattern.
- Bend one paper strip to make a loop.
- Tape the ends of the paper to close the loop.
- Do the same with the other paper strip.
- Tape a paper strip onto each end of the large straw. The straw will be inside the loop.
- Put a small ball of clay into the end of the large straw like a cork.
- Put the large straw over the small one.
- Make sure the little loop is on top.
- Give the bottle a quick squeeze.
You have an air bottle rocket!
