August 2nd, 2008: Monthly Sky Guy Planetarium Show
Come on down to the Downtown Digital Dome Theatre and Planetarium and enjoy a free planetarium show on Saturday August 2nd at 10 a.m. The free planetarium show is coordinated with the monthly Democrat "Sky Guy" column and is presented by the Tallahassee Astronomical Society. The August sky over Tallahassee will be reviewed including prominent constellations, stars and planets. The zodiac constellation Sagittarius and its nearby companion Ophiuchus will be highlighted for "Learning Constellations". The Binocular Object-of-the-Month is M8, the Lagoon Nebula, near Sagittarius. Learn about M20, the Trifid Nebula, the "Messier object of the Month". The “Learning Astronomy” topic this month is Pluto and why it was demoted to a dwarf planet. While you are there stay for “New Horizons” and take a trip to Pluto, the 11:00 a.m. regular planetarium show at one-half off the regular price for those attending the 10:00 a.m. free planetarium show.
Saturday, July 26, 2008: Beijing Olympic Games Kick-Off with Pandamonium at the Challenger Learning Center
Activities run from 11:30am to 2pm, followed by 2pm showing of Kung Fu Panda: The IMAX Experience
2008 Pandamonium Olympic events will be the “egg roll” competition, chop stick skills challenge and Kung Fu jousting. The Pandamonium will also feature martial arts demos, Your Name in Chinese posters and panda face-painting.
