An Inspiring Adventure in Space Science For Beginning Readers K-4

With the Micronauts program, the Challenger Learning Center of Tallahassee broadened the age range for students wishing space adventures to include beginning readers K-4. Always excited about space and space travel and so many wanting to be astronauts, they are at the perfect age for a learning experience that is “awesome.” Micronauts is available in a choice of two program packages, each involving one or two hands-on investigative events (activities) called Extra Venue Activities (EVAs) that address themes of living in space and using technology. Programs also include a planetarium show. Call 850.645.7777 today to book your mission to space.

Enhance your Micronauts experience by adding an IMAX® Theatre film to either program for only $5.00 per student or with Flight Director Activities!

The 2-hour program includes a Mini Discovery Mission (30 minutes), one of two Micronauts EVAs and a planetarium show.  $350 (up to 38 students)

The 3-hour program includes a Mini Discovery Mission (40 minutes), both Micronauts EVAs and a planetarium show. $500 (up to 54 students)

The Mini Discovery Mission is a simulation that takes place in the actual spacecraft of the Challenger Learning Center. Here our youngest astronauts are part of an elite team of scientists, engineers and mathematicians on the International Space Station. Traveling at 230 miles above the Earth’s surface, they conduct up to 10 different hands-on activities such as examining insects for radioactivity, classifying rocks, investigating objects under a microscope and using a balance.

Micronaut EVAs:

1) Micronauts In-Orbit EVA - Living in space.

  • Participate in Right Order lesson where students create their very own STS model
  • Play a card game to recreate the correct sequence in a real shuttle launch

2) Micronauts Tech EVA - Using technology.

  • Build a Nano Satellite with googleplex parts
  • Learn about objects in the day and night sky

For the 2-hour program, the maximum number of participants is 38 and for the 3-hour program, the maximum number of participants is 54. Students travel in separate groups to 3 different activity areas.

Special concession and gift shop packages also are available for groups. Click here for more information.
