May 17, 2008: Leon County Schools Elementary Science Expo
Students from Leon County elementary schools will be displaying their science projects on Saturday, May 17th from
10am to 12 noon at the Challenger Learning Center. The top 12 winners from every elementary school science fair were
invited to showcase their projects. Every participating student will receive a free admission ticket to the Downtown
Digital Dome Theatre & Planetarium (DDD). The event is free to the public and tickets to the DDD will be sold at a
discounted rate of $3.50 during the expo. The projects will not be judged; they are simply on display for the public
to see the students’ involvement and curiosity in science.
May 7th, 2008: See local celebrities in a whole new light…a spotlight!
The Challenger Learning Center presents the 1st Annual Celebrity Comic Challenge. Local celebrities will take the mic,
for one night only, and try to shine as bright as a star. The event is Wednesday, May 7th, doors open at 6pm and the
show starts at 8pm. The local celebrities performing are: Chucha Barber, Sherriff Larry Campbell, Commissioner
John Dailey, Commissioner Ed DePuy, Fire Chief Cindy Dick, County Property Appraiser Bert Hartsfield, Janet Hinkle,
Elise Judelle, Bill Montford, Sean Pittman, Frank Ranicky, Sean Shaw, NASA Astronaut Norm Thagard and Steve Uhlfelder.
The event will be held at The Comedy Zone at 401 East Tennessee Street. Tickets are $75 each, for sponsorship and table
information, please call 850.645.7827, or complete a registration form. All proceeds benefit the educational programs of
the Challenger Learning Center.
