Digistar 3: The world's first and only completely integrated digital planetarium system.

One of only 29 of its kind in the United States, the Challenger Learning Center Downtown Digital Dome Theatre and Planetarium is a Digistar 3 system: the world's first and only completely integrated digital planetarium system. The Downtown Digital Dome is a fully digital theater complete with 20,600 watts of 5.1 Dolby Digital surround sound. The Digistar 3 system uses powerful graphics hardware and software to generate immersive full-dome images on the interior surface of the dome with high-resolution video projectors. Additionally, Digistar 3 can display live or previously recorded video streams simultaneously with the real-time graphics. Digital surround-sound generation and playback enhances and completes the immersive environment to create the total show.

Our planetarium dome measures 50 feet in diameter and is constructed of a strong, but light, perforated aluminum paneling that enables all of our sounds to be clear and crisp without an echo. The dome is tilted at an angle of 17.5 degrees and our theater boasts soft stadium seats to enhance the viewing experience.
