FREE Weekend Programs
The Challenger Learning Center offers a rotating set of free weekend programs for families to enjoy while spending quality time together.
1st Saturday – Skies Over Tallahassee
10 am – 11 am
Presented by the Tallahassee Astronomical Society, this free planetarium show reviews prominent constellations, stars, and planet positions that can be seen during the upcoming month. This free show occurs on the first Saturday of each month.
2nd Saturday – SCIturday
10 am – 2 pm
Join us for family friendly activities featuring various STEAM topics (science, technology, engineering, art and math).

May 10, 2025: 100 Years of the Planetarium
Step inside the dome and travel through time as we celebrate 100 Years of the Planetarium! Discover how these incredible theaters of the stars have inspired generations of explorers, dreamers, and scientists. Building simple star projectors, experiment with lenses and light, and creating your own constellation artwork. Learn how planetariums work, how they’ve changed over the past century, and how they continue to spark curiosity about our universe.
June 14, 2025: Tinker Lab
It’s time to invent, build, and explore in the Tinker Lab! Design simple machines, explore circuits, and experiment with everyday materials to tackle fun engineering challenges. There’s something for every young maker to enjoy.
July 12, 2025: Weather Hunters
Uncover the secrets of the sky with help from our friends at WFSU and WeatherSTEM. Become junior meteorologists through hands-on activities and real-world weather tools. You’ll even get a behind-the-scenes look at how weather forecasts are made and how technology helps us stay safe during extreme conditions.
2nd Sunday – Storytime Under the Stars
6 pm – 7 pm
Join us for an enchanting evening of nostalgia and wonder where you can enjoy classic bedtime stories in our planetarium under a celestial canopy of twinkling stars. A live narrator reads selected picture books with pages projected onto the Planetarium dome for families to enjoy the illustrations and follow along.
3rd Saturday – Kids’ Free Day
all day
On Kids’ Free Day children 12 and under receive a free* ticket to any scheduled IMAX documentary or planetarium show with a paying adult. *Receive one complimentary child’s ticket for each adult ticket purchase. Hollywood Films excluded from this offer.
